2020 was a very complicated season to say the least. Due to Covid-19 our season opening was delayed until May 25th. It actually worked out well for us because it gave us time to complete an electronic retrofit when the shipping and installation became a real challenge. Thanks to great help from good friends we got it all installed and running without issues.
We started catching some really nice Brown Trout right out of the gate and by late May the King Salmon had moved into the area. We had some really nice King Salmon catches in June and early July. Mid July we experienced unstable weather and we fished for Lake Trout that were also willing and eager to provide easy daily limits for our clients. August featured the most unsettled weather pattern of my career. Heavy winds from the west one day north and the next south. Every day we continued searching for preferred water temperature and fish. Finding the fish was easy but finding fish that were happy and biting was our challenge! September was a carbon copy of August weather wise. Right to end of the season the weather was definitely a pain but we pulled through with a lot of great fish catches.
These are just a few of the great catches we had during the 2020 fishing season. I want to thank all and express our appreciation to our wonderful clients because without you we couldn’t be in the business we so love. We are already looking forward to an even better 2021 together!
Captain James W. Fetterhoff Sr. has had a love for fishing his entire life. Beginning with small streams and ponds then graduating to lakes and rivers, finally in the late 80's Jim was introduced to the finest fishery in the Northeast, bountiful Lake Ontario. Jim realized this was his dream and in 2002 went on to earn his US Coast Guard captain's license so that he could share this passion with others. From his first day on Lake Ontario he was challenged and intrigued by the Lake Ontario's ever changing water and fishing conditions. He runs tailored charters for family fun, trophy fishing or tournament fishing. Jim is the father of four wonderful children and thinks there is not much better then seeing a young angler's face when a big King Salmon starts burning line off the fishing reel. He is personable and patient with everyone onboard and appreciates the opportunity to entertain your family or group while showing you just how awesome our Lake Ontario fishing can be.
Lake Ontario produces some of the best tasting fish species in the world so proper preparation is an important priority. Here are a few of our favorite you can cook at home after a great catch on Midway.
